Tesla Motors is an automotive company founded in 2003 and focused on the production of premium sports electric vehicles, located in Silicon Valley near the city of San Francisco. The company is named after the world famous electrical engineer Nikola Tesla. It was the AC induction motor patented by Nikola Tesla in 1888 that formed the basis for the design of power units installed on Tesla cars.
Tesla’s manufacturing facilities are located at its own factories in Fairmont, California, USA and Tilburg, North Brabant, the Netherlands. By 2020, the company, together with key partners, plans to build a plant in Nevada to produce lithium-ion batteries for its cars. This plant should become the world’s largest manufacturer of its kind.
In support of its customers – owners of Tesla cars, the company is deploying a network of “Superchargers” (Supercharger) – branded stations for ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles manufactured under the Tesla brand. These charging stations are located in such a way that Tesla cars can make long trips, charging batteries for free only at branded charging stations. Stations use, basically, the energy received from solar panels.
As of 2015, in the United States, the main transport corridors are covered with a network of charging stations, it is possible to get from one coast to another. At the same time, the Supercharge network is actively developing in Europe, Asia and Australia.
